(How You Can Help)
Thank you for your interest in raising funds to support the American Red Cross, Metro Atlanta Chapter.
Please note that the Red Cross is unable to accept non-monetary donations such as food and clothing because of storage and transportation requirements.* Financial donations are the most efficient way for our organization to meet the emergency needs of individuals and families who have lost their homes to fires and other disasters. Secure credit card donations can be made on our Web site.
Host a Special Event
During times of disaster or great need, our local community often responds through organizing group fundraising events or campaigns. Please be advised that hosting an event may require a considerable amount of work on your part. You must determine the date, location, and logistical details and be responsible for all promotion and implementation. Also, we cannot guarantee that a Red Cross representative will be available during times of disaster, so you may be responsible for collecting and holding on to the donations until you can bring them to our office during regular business hours (8:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.) If you would like to host an event, please send a detailed description of your fundraising plan, along with your contact information, to rmcallister@arcatl.org.
Examples of community fundraising events:
-
Host a benefit party/concert.
-
Host a silent auction benefit.
-
Donate a portion of your business proceeds to the American Red Cross.
-
Conduct a workplace giving/matching gift campaign.
The American Red Cross has restrictions and requirements regarding the use of our logo and does not participate in door-to-door fundraising of any kind. In order to be officially recognized as a community fundraising event by the American Red Cross, you must receive written authorization to do so in the form of a fundraising agreement signed by a Red Cross representative. Please note that due to National Red Cross policy, we are not authorized to provide official Red Cross donation canisters.
Place an American Red Cross Banner on your Web site
The American Red Cross, Metro Atlanta Chapter has the capability to track your employee, customer, and supplier donations through our web site. By using a secure link, you can send an email to all employees, or post a banner ad on your company's Intranet and encourage your contacts to go there to make a credit card donation. If you would like to place a banner on your web page, please e-mail rmcallister@arcatl.org.
Host a Blood Drive
For more information on conducting a blood drive, call 1-800-GIVELIFE or visit www.givebloodredcross.org.
* The cost to sort, package and distribute these types of donations to disaster victims is almost always greater than the cost of purchasing the items locally. We recommend that you donate these items to organizations that are equipped to put them to the best possible local use. Offers of sizeable, bulk donations, however, will be reviewed by the Red Cross to determine if they meet a current need for disaster clients. Bulk donations are typically new, shrink-wrapped and palletized items, and must be transported by the donor. For more information on in-kind donations, click on "Donate Goods" on the homepage.
