Volunteerism

The Red Cross is a volunteer-led organization. More than 6,000 volunteers -- from youths to seniors -- form the backbone of our Atlanta chapter. Because people are willing to share their valuable time and talent, we are able to provide lifesaving programs and services to our communities. To find the volunteer opportunities available through the Southern District Office see Volunteer Opportunities.

Disaster Services

Every day of the year, 24 hours a day, the American Red Cross is there for you whenever disaster strikes to provide food, clothing, shelter, medications, and encouragement to face the future. More than 25 Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers made this assistance possible within our service area this past year. They responded to 131 disasters (mostly home fires) and assisted 588 individuals with emergency needs. In addition, 350 people were taught how to protect their families and cope with disaster through community disaster education programs.

HEROES Campaign

The HEROES Campaign is an exciting new program that enables individuals to impact their community by raising $1000 to support the lifesaving programs and services of the local Red Cross. Here’s how it works: Leaders in the community are recruited to identify potential “HEROES” for the Red Cross. HEROES are individuals, groups, or businesses who agree to raise or donate $1000 during a 3-week campaign. At the end of the campaign, the HEROES, workers, sponsors and community supporters are recognized for their contributions to the work of the Red Cross.

To volunteer or support the HEROES Campaign contact Laurie Kimbrell at 770-963-9209 or lkimbrell@arcatl.org.
