HEROES Campaign

The HEROES Campaign is an exciting new program that enables individuals to impact their community by raising $1000 to support the lifesaving programs and services of the local Red Cross. Here’s how it works: Leaders in the community are recruited to identify potential “HEROES” for the Red Cross. HEROES are individuals, groups, or businesses who agree to raise or donate $1000 during a 3-week campaign. At the end of the campaign, the HEROES, workers, sponsors and community supporters are recognized for their contributions to the work of the Red Cross.

To volunteer or support the Gwinnett HEROES Campaign contact Laurie Kimbrell at 770-963-9209 or lkimbrell@arcatl.org.

Volunteerism

The Red Cross is a volunteer-led organization. More than 2,000 volunteers – from youths to seniors – form the backbone of our Atlanta chapter. Because people are willing to share their valuable time and talent, we are able to provide lifesaving programs and services to our communities. Our most urgent need in Gwinnett county is in the following areas:

  • Disaster Health Services: Licensed medical personnel are needed to assess health needs of disaster clients and to assist them in obtaining necessary health equipment, supplies and/or medications.
  • Disaster Action Team (DAT): Volunteers are trained to provide specific disaster services on behalf of the American Red Cross. DAT volunteers respond to the scene of disasters, providing assistance to clients that have immediate, disaster-caused needs such as shelter, food and clothing.
  • Administrative Volunteer: Volunteers will assist with administrative projects such as customer service and reception, computerized data entry, filing, organizing special projects and other similar activities.
  • International Services Caseworker: Volunteers help with outreach to our international community by providing tracing and messaging services for families separated by disaster, armed conflict, civil unrest or changing world conditions. Duties include research and contacting families.

Disaster Services

Every day of the year, 24 hours a day, the American Red Cross is there for you whenever disaster strikes to provide food, clothing, shelter, medications, and encouragement to face the future. More than 65 Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers made this assistance possible within Gwinnett County this past year. They responded to 136 disasters (mostly home fires) and assisted 516 individuals with emergency needs.
